After getting the breast reconstruction done, the woman has the option to get the nipple reconstructed as well. Nipple reconstruction is done only the reconstructed breast has healed like say 3 or 4 months after that surgery. The surgeon creates small incisions and then raises the tissue into a position that forms and shapes it into a living tissue projection that resembles the natural nipple.

Another option for the reconstructed nipple is tattooing and in recent times, there has been the use of 3D nipple tattoos that shows depth and color variation. Tattooing is usually performed after nipple reconstruction and over the years pigments are likely to fade or change.
